When to call

Common reasons people contact us

Stains on ceilings

Brown rings upstairs or in the attic usually mean water is getting past the shingles or flashing.

Missing or lifted shingles

Common after wind and storms. Exposed spots let water reach the deck quickly.

Ice dams at the eaves

Thick ice along the gutters in winter backs water up under shingles.

Granules in the gutters

Shingles shed their gritty coating as they wear out near the end of their life.

A sagging or soft roofline

Can mean rotted decking underneath. Worth an inspection before the next winter.

Planning solar

Have the roof checked first, so panels don't go on a roof that needs replacing soon.

What’s included

The work we do

Your estimate always lists exactly what’s included for your job.

  • Shingle roofs: replacement and repair
  • Metal roofs
  • Rubber roofs for flat and low-slope areas
  • Gutters
  • Inspection with photos you keep
  • Daily cleanup, a magnetic nail sweep and a final review

Your options

Repair or replace?

A repair makes sense when the damage is limited and the rest of the roof is sound. We’ll tell you which we’d choose for your house and why.

Process

How a roof replacement runs

  1. Inspection

We check the roof and attic and photograph what we find.

  2. Written options

Repair or replacement, materials, and the price of each.

  3. Scheduling and delivery

We set a start window, then materials arrive and a dumpster is placed if needed.

  4. Property protection

Tarps over landscaping, and anything near the house moved or covered.

  5. Tear-off and install

Old roofing removed, deck repaired, new roof installed.

  6. Cleanup and final review

Magnetic nail sweep, debris hauled away, and the finished roof checked with you.

Rain, snow and wind move roofing dates. If the forecast changes, we call you with a new start date.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the driveway area where materials and the dumpster will go
  • Move cars, grills and patio furniture away from the house
  • Take fragile items off walls next to the roof; hammering can shake them loose
  • Tell us about pets, gate codes or anything the crew should know

When the work is done

We walk the finished roof with you, hand over photos and warranty paperwork, and follow up if anything needs attention.

Photos and paperwork from the job are kept with your job record.

Cost and timing

What affects your price

We don’t post prices, because two houses on the same street can need very different work. Your estimate is built from these factors.

Roof size

Measured in roofing squares (one square covers 100 sq ft), counting every plane of the roof.

Steepness

Steep roofs need extra safety setup and take longer. Many older Pittsburgh homes are steep.

Layers to remove

Each old layer of shingles adds tear-off labor and disposal.

Decking condition

Rotted or soft boards are replaced once the old roof is off. Your estimate shows the per-sheet price.

Material

Shingle line, metal or membrane, plus the warranty level you choose.

Details and access

Chimneys, skylights, valleys, multiple stories and tight driveways all add time.

Timing

Your estimate gives a start window and the expected number of working days. Weather and material delivery set most of the schedule.

Questions

Common roofing questions

How long does a roof replacement take?

Once work starts, a typical house takes days, not weeks. Steep or complex roofs and bad weather add time.

Can you replace a roof in the winter?

Often, on dry days above the temperature the shingle maker allows. We'll tell you if waiting a few weeks is the better call.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover storm damage?

That depends on your policy and the cause of the damage. We can document what we find with photos. Coverage decisions are your insurer's.

Do I need a permit?

Rules differ between Pittsburgh and the surrounding municipalities. We check the requirement for your address before work starts.
